Kitchen Curtains
Are you looking to add some (fashion) flavor to your kitchen window? There’s no better way to dress up a window—and shade some light—than using tasteful kitchen curtains. Shop Macy’s for a great selection of many different kitchen curtain styles!
What type of curtains are best for kitchens?
1. Tiers. Not tears. Perfect for your kitchen and also referred to as a café or privacy tier. This type of curtain is a tailored or ruffled window treatment that is hung in the middle of the window to the window sill. You will often see them paired with a valance or swag hung over the tier—now that’s a dynamic duo.
2. Valances & toppers. Top off your kitchen window with a valance or topper. These curtains are hung at the top of a window and made in many different styles and shapes. Use them alone for a simple, clean look or over a matching tier for a stylized aesthetic.
3. Swags & scarves. Your kitchen could use some swag. A swag can have a rod pocket (a casing sewn along the top of the curtain that allows the rod to slip through unseen) with straight sides on the outside and a curved shape on the inside—or it can simply be pieces of fabric loosely slung and draped over a decorative rod, AKA window scarf.
Helpful Hint: To coordinate colors and develop a kitchen theme, buy sets. 3-piece and 5-piece sets come with 2 or more window treatment sections like a valance or swag and tier.
What size curtains should I get? Measure up! To ensure the best possible fit, measure the surface area you’re decorating. Follow the below guidelines for some extra helpful hints.
1. Start by carefully measuring your window.
2. Decide whether you want your curtains to hang from a pole or track.
3. Fit the track or pole to the window—position 6” above the window and extend 6”-8” on either side.
4. Measure the width of the track or pole, excluding the finials (ornamental end pieces).
5. Measure the length—this depends whether you want your curtains to fall at the sill, below the sill or to the floor. Kitchen curtains typically fall 1/2” above the sill.
